Building new lives

beyond prison walls.

We All did it! Thanks to generous support, we now own our transitional home! Thank you!

Our transitional home provides safe and supportive housing for women who are transitioning from prison to the community. In addition to housing up to six women at a time, this space gives clients an opportunity to belong again. Our home:

  • Has private meeting areas used for professional counseling, offered to clients and their families as they process past issues and the challenges of reentry.
  • Hosts weekly SEED (Spiritual Encouragement and Emotional Development) group for our clients in the home and in the community.
  • Allows Changed Choices to host events for our family, which includes those at the home as well as those who have transitioned from the home into their own housing. We have held barbecues, birthday parties and even a client's wedding!

Having a home matters!

I became a client while incarcerated at the Mecklenburg County Jail. I was sick and tired of the life I was living: in and out of jail and prison, being away from my kids and just going nowhere in life. I got connected with Changed Choices, got a mentor and a host of pen pals: ladies praying for me and giving me a sense of belonging. I came to the Changed Choices home on April 21, 2014. I love my home! I walk in the house, and there’s just a sense of peace. I haven't had a place to call home in almost 10 years. Today I’m at a point in my life where I stand on morals, values, and I actually have goals. God is the head of my life. Without Changed Choices, I don’t know where I would be today. This program has given me the motivation, strength and will power to be the woman I am today.
