Do you have an IRA, 401(k), life-insurance policy, or any other assets not included in your will? If so, these are called non-probate assets and you must plan your beneficiaries for them separately. Use this online tool to make your plans and designate us as a beneficiary of one or more of these assets.

A Simple Way
to Plan

We’ve partnered with FreeWill to make planned giving accessible and free. This secure and completely confidential online tool guides you through the process of creating a legal will in under 20 minutes — and gives you the option to include a legacy gift to Changed Choices, if you feel led.

Why Planned Giving?

A gift in your will or estate plan is a powerful way to extend your support for Changed Choices without impacting your finances today. Your legacy gift becomes a lasting investment in:

Restoration — providing spiritual, emotional, mental, and practical care

Freedom — helping women rebuild secure, sustainable lives after incarceration

Transformation — ensuring that women receive second chances for years to come

Whether you're updating your will or creating one for the first time, your legacy can reflect the values, faith, and compassion that have guided your life.

Three Ways to Give Later

Bequests

One of the most meaningful ways to support Changed Choices is by including a gift in your will or trust. You can designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset. Bequests offer flexibility and can be changed at any time.

Benefits:

  • Flexibility — Bequests are revocable, allowing you to adjust your plans as needed

  • Tax Savings — Bequests are exempt from federal estate taxes, potentially reducing your estate's tax burden

  • Impactful Giving — Provide a legacy of support for women impacted by incarceration with a legacy that aligns with your faith and values

  • Peace of Mind — Know your values will live on as your generosity echos for generations to come

Beneficiary Designations

Some of your most valuable assets — like retirement accounts and life insurance – may not be included in your will. By naming Changed Choices as a beneficiary, you can create lasting impact without affecting your finances today.

You can designate us as a beneficiary of your:

  • IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or pension

  • Life insurance policy

  • Bank or investment accounts

Most people won’t use all of their retirement assets — and if passed to heirs, these funds could be taxed at 40–60%. But as a 501(c)(3), Changed Choices receives these gifts tax-free, allowing 100% of your generosity to support women rebuilding their lives.

Benefits:

  • Tax-wise: Retirement assets left to heirs may be heavily taxed — gifting them to Changed Choices can eliminate that burden

  • Control: Use your assets during your lifetime

  • Legacy impact: Ensure Changed Choices remains a place of healing and transformation for years to come

Trusts

Trusts can provide income during your lifetime while supporting Changed Choices in the future. There are two main options:

  • Charitable Remainder Trust: Provides income to you or loved ones now; remaining assets go to Changed Choices later.

  • Charitable Lead Trust: Provides income to Changed Choices now; remaining assets return to your heirs later.

Example: You fund a remainder trust with appreciated stock. You (or a loved one) receive income for life, and the remainder supports Changed Choices when the trust ends.

Talk with your financial advisor to see if a trust aligns with your goals.
